• Soldier's Home - Ernest Hemingway
• Never Marry A Mexican - Sandra Cisneros
• Eleven - Sandra Cisneros

Write:

• 2 response papers (1 on a Hemingway story, 1 on a Cisneros story)

Note: All the readings can be found under Assigned Readings/Short Stories & Plays.  I think  you will enjoy the stories. We will have plenty to discuss next time we meet.

Group Assignment:  Read "Pedagogy of Poverty Versus Good Teaching" - Martin Haberman

Presentation: 5-10 min max 

Begin to critically analyze the text (construct/build meaning). 

You are not summarizing the essay to present. 

Pick something specific within the article that you wish to discuss as a group.  

You have the autonomy of presenting anyway you want

Medium:

• If you are using multi-media, please bring device to use in class that can be used with projector(ex. laptop computer)
• If using power point, save in USB drive
• If using YouTube, keep to minimal (1-2 min tops)
• If handing out material, please make sufficient copies

Rubric:

• Everyone must participate
• I will be providing FEEDBACK for each individual group
• ORIGINALITY of presentation will be taken into account
• Style and effective rhetorical  and oral presentation will be taken into account.
• Use your grammar and vocabulary skills effectively. Don't be embarrassed to sound smart!
• Looking for thoughtful ANALYSIS and interpretations of the TEXT (Article)
